Our Story

We are a small family owned bee-keeping business producing honey from the beautiful pristine West Coast, South Island, NZ (Te Tai Poutini).

Spanning from the wild Tasman sea to the towering mountains of the Southern Alps, the West Coast of the South Island contains over half of NZ’s remaining Native Podocarp forest.

This huge expanse of wilderness provides our bees with a diverse range of nectar resulting in honey that is completely unique to this special corner of the world.

We strongly believe in producing honey that is entirely 100% pure natural raw NZ honey.

smooth buttery honey

Rata

This is our most popular honey and for good reason as it has long been recognized as one of the finest honey’s in the world. Rata honey is considered iconic to the West Coast and is produced from the Southern Rata tree. What makes this honey even more special is the fact that the Southern Rata tree only flowers once every several years. No one including scientists can predict which year the Southern Rata is likely to flower. The prolific vibrant red flower of the Southern Rata across our West Coast mountainsides provides a spectacular visual vista.

Rata honey is very light in colour and has a distinctive silky smooth buttery texture with caramel undertones.

Silky Smooth Honey

Beech Honeydew

Beech Honeydew is harvested from the Beech forests of
Westland and is a little different from normal honey in the fact that Beech Honeydew is not nectar from a flower but is a sugary substance excreted by a tiny insect that lives in the bark of the Beech tree. This substance is collected by the bees and converted to honeydew.

This full bodied and silky smooth honey has a malty, earthy
taste and an incredibly distinct, intense aroma of the forests it was produced from. Beech Honeydew will remain liquid for long periods of time.
